About Me

I'm a qualified counsellor, counselling supervisor and life coach, a former radio and tv presenter and reporter with the BBC and mum to three grown up daughters.

My background is in broadcasting but when I hit 40 I wanted to do something more meaningful. So I went back to University to study for my counselling qualifications - it took nearly six years - and I set up my busy private counselling, psychotherapy and coaching practice in 2002. I trained to become a supervisor of counsellors in 2011.

My main interest is in working with eating disorders. I had problems in this area myself when I was younger and I believe this gives me an extra understanding when counselling anyone with issues around food and weight. I worked for several years as a volunteer with the Eating Disorders Association (now BEAT). I have had training with the National Centre for Eating Disorders and now provide training for other counsellors who want to learn more about working with eating problems.

What do all these initials mean?

Grad. Dip. Counselling: This is a two-year post-graduate Diploma in Counselling. It qualifies me to practice as a counsellor. I trained at York St. John University; a BACP accredited course. Before this I completed a one-year Certificate in Counselling.

Cert. Counsellor Supervision:
I have completed a one-year, Masters-level course in providing supervision of other counsellors.

Dip. Coaching: I have a Certificate and Diploma in Life Coaching. This was an 18-month course in Performance Coaching under one of the country’s best known coaches, Fiona Harrold, at Newcastle College.

BACP Accredited: The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy is my governing body and I abide by their code of ethics.
The BACP says: "Accredited BACP counsellor/psychotherapists have met and continue to maintain BACP's highly regarded standards of professional training, practice and development. When searching for a counsellor/psychotherapist, BACP accreditation acts as a kitemark. Accreditation helps clients, colleagues and employers make informed decisions about the counsellor/psychotherapist they choose – reliable, safe and ultimately better decisions."
